How to Prepare for Your Online Breathwork Session

Create your sacred space

  • Find a quiet, comfortable place where you will not be disturbed during the session.
  • Let anyone you live with know that you will need uninterrupted time.
  • Dim the lights to create a calming atmosphere, or use an eye mask for a deeper experience.
  • Have a yoga mat, bed, sofa, or soft carpet available to lie on. Sitting is also an option for shorter sessions.
  • Bring a low pillow or bolster to support your head or knees, especially if you experience lower back pain.
  • Keep a blanket nearby, as your body temperature may change during the session. 
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy breathing and free movement.
  • Remove anything tight around your waist, chest, or neck.
  • Bring water, tissues (as emotional release can occur), chapstick, and a notebook for reflections afterward.
  • Avoid eating heavy meals for 1–2 hours before the session.
  • Stay hydrated, but try not to drink large amounts of water right before the session starts.

Prepare Your Mind

Your only real job is to show up with an open mind and an open heart, allowing whatever unfolds to bring you closer to your true self.

Remember that there is no right or wrong way to experience breathwork. Every session and journey is unique, and your experience may be different each time.

Aftercare

After your session, it’s important to give yourself quiet time to integrate the experience.

Avoid alcohol or recreational drugs, as they can interfere with the integration process. Move slowly and allow yourself time before returning to your regular daily activities.

Helpful integration practices include journaling, resting, drinking plenty of water, and taking a gentle walk. These simple actions can support your body and mind as you process the experience.
